Description

LL-37 5mg from Certified Peptides is 5mg of LL-37 in a sealed glass vial. LL-37 is a human cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide. It’s sold for laboratory research only.

What is LL-37?

LL-37 is the only cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide humans make. It’s 37 amino acids long and starts with two leucines, which is where the name comes from. It’s cut from a larger precursor protein, hCAP-18, and is found in white blood cells, skin and the lining of the airways and gut.

It’s amphipathic, with one charged face and one oily face, so it can sit in and disrupt bacterial membranes.

How LL-37 acts in the lab

LL-37 has a positively charged face that’s drawn to the negatively charged membranes of bacteria. Once it’s there, its oily face pushes into the membrane and makes holes.

It does more than kill microbes. It binds bacterial endotoxin, recruits immune cells and stimulates new blood vessel growth, which ties it into wound healing studies.

What the research says about LL-37

Lab work shows it kills a wide range of bacteria and some fungi and viruses in culture, and it also acts as a signaling molecule in inflammation and wound repair. Heilborn and colleagues reported in 2003 that it’s needed for normal re-epithelialization of human skin wounds in culture.

Human data are limited to small early-phase studies, for example on venous leg ulcers.

How to reconstitute LL-37 5mg

The amount of liquid you add sets the concentration. For a vial holding 5mg:

  • 1mL of bacteriostatic water gives 5mg/mL
  • 2mL of bacteriostatic water gives 2.5mg/mL
  • 3mL of bacteriostatic water gives 1.67mg/mL

Choose the volume that suits your measurements. Mark the vial with the concentration and date so nobody has to guess later. The vial itself holds 3mL, so that’s the upper limit.

Use sterile bacteriostatic water, like our 10mL bacteriostatic water. Let the vial reach room temperature, run the water slowly down the inside of the glass, then roll the vial gently until the powder dissolves. Don’t shake it. Shaking can shear peptide chains.

Storing LL-37 5mg

Freeze-dried LL-37 5mg handles room temperature fine during shipping, but for anything longer keep it in a freezer at -20°C, away from light. Once mixed, keep it in the fridge at 2 to 8°C and use it within about four weeks.

If you keep several vials going at once, our 10 vial container keeps them upright and together on a fridge shelf, and spare 3mL vial caps protect the stoppers once the seals are off.

How LL-37 5mg is tested

Every batch of LL-37 5mg is made in the USA and checked by an independent U.S. lab for three things: that it’s the right compound, that the amount matches the label and that purity is 99% or better by HPLC.

You don’t have to take our word for it. The certificate of analysis for the current batch is in the image gallery at the top of this page, next to the product photo, and it shows the test date and the results.

Purity isn’t the whole story, so batches are screened for endotoxins, heavy metals and sterility too. Write the batch number from the label into your notes so you can match results to the paperwork later.

How many LL-37 5mg vials do you need?

Start from the protocol. Total the amount every arm needs from the first time point to the last, divide by the 5mg in a vial and add a spare. It’s cheaper to order once than to wait on a second shipment halfway through.

Mix one vial at a time and keep the rest sealed in the freezer. Dry powder keeps far longer than solution, so there’s no reason to reconstitute everything at the start.

Keep vials from one batch together in a study where you can. The batch number on the label ties each result back to its certificate of analysis.
