Description

Our Epithalon 10mg vial holds 10mg of lyophilized Epithalon, a synthetic tetrapeptide, made and tested in the USA. It’s for in-vitro and lab research only.

About Epithalon

Epitalon (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) is a synthetic tetrapeptide based on epithalamin, a pineal gland extract. Vladimir Khavinson’s group developed it.

It’s studied in aging research.

How Epithalon acts in the lab

Epitalon is modeled on epithalamin, a peptide extract of the pineal gland. The pineal gland produces melatonin, and the original work looked at how it changed with age.

In cell culture, Khavinson’s group reported that epitalon switched on telomerase, the enzyme that rebuilds the protective caps on chromosome ends. Its other reported effects include normalizing melatonin rhythms in older animals.

What the research says about Epithalon

Khavinson and colleagues reported that epitalon activated telomerase and lengthened telomeres in human fibroblast cultures (2003).

Rodent studies from the same group reported longer lifespans and fewer tumors.

Epithalon compared with similar compounds

Epithalon 10mg is easier to place once you see it next to the compounds it’s usually compared with. Epithalon is the tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, studied for telomerase activity. The others:

  • NAD+ is the coenzyme behind cell energy and sirtuin activity, whose levels fall with age
  • SS-31 targets cardiolipin on the inner mitochondrial membrane
  • Glutathione is the cell’s main antioxidant tripeptide
  • MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide coded in mitochondrial DNA, studied for glucose use in muscle
  • GHK-Cu is the copper-binding tripeptide studied for collagen and skin repair

Aging research splits into a few processes, and each of these compounds targets one: telomeres, cell energy, mitochondria, oxidative stress or tissue repair. See them all on our anti-aging peptides page.

Lab-tested Epithalon 10mg

We only sell U.S.-made products, and Epithalon 10mg is no exception. Each batch is tested by an outside U.S. lab for identity, content and purity, with a 99%+ HPLC purity standard.

The certificate of analysis for the batch in stock is posted in the product gallery above. Click through the images and you’ll see the lab report with its date and numbers.

On top of purity, each batch is screened for endotoxins, heavy metals and sterility. For cell culture work that screen is often the more important number.

Reconstituting Epithalon 10mg

Concentration is the amount in the vial divided by the volume of water you add. With 10mg of powder in this vial:

  • 1mL of bacteriostatic water gives 10mg/mL
  • 2mL of bacteriostatic water gives 5mg/mL
  • 3mL of bacteriostatic water gives 3.33mg/mL

Go with whichever number is easiest to work with in your protocol, and label the vial with the concentration and the date you mixed it. The vial itself holds 3mL, so that’s the upper limit.

Use sterile bacteriostatic water, like our 10mL bacteriostatic water. Let the vial reach room temperature, run the water slowly down the inside of the glass, then roll the vial gently until the powder dissolves. Don’t shake it. Shaking can shear peptide chains.

How to store Epithalon 10mg

Freeze-dried Epithalon 10mg handles room temperature fine during shipping, but for anything longer keep it in a freezer at -20°C, away from light. Once mixed, keep it in the fridge at 2 to 8°C and use it within about four weeks.

Vials are small and easy to knock over or misplace. Our 6 vial and 10 vial containers keep a whole study’s worth together.

Choosing an Epithalon strength

  • Epithalon 10mg (this page): $45.00, about $4.50 per mg
  • Epithalon 50mg: $110.00, about $2.20 per mg

Epithalon 10mg is the entry size, handy when you only need a little or want to try Epithalon before committing to a bigger vial.
