Description

MOTS-c 40mg is a 40mg vial of MOTS-c, a mitochondrial-derived peptide, made in the USA and supplied as freeze-dried powder. It’s sold for laboratory research only.

MOTS-c at a glance

MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded in the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene. It was described in 2015 by Pinchas Cohen’s group at USC.

It acts on metabolism, in part through AMPK.

How MOTS-c acts in the lab

Most proteins are coded in the cell nucleus. MOTS-c is one of a handful of peptides coded in mitochondrial DNA instead. Its main target looks like the folate cycle, which feeds into AMPK activation and better glucose handling in muscle.

Under stress it can move into the nucleus and change gene expression. Circulating levels drop with age in both mice and people, which is why it’s studied in metabolism and aging.

MOTS-c research

Lee and colleagues reported in Cell Metabolism (2015) that MOTS-c prevented diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance in mice.

Reynolds and colleagues showed in 2021 that it improved physical capacity in young, middle-aged and old mice.

The primary literature is on PubMed. Here’s a search for MOTS-c studies to start from.

MOTS-c compared with similar compounds

MOTS-c 40mg is easier to place once you see it next to the compounds it’s usually compared with. MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide coded in mitochondrial DNA, studied for glucose use in muscle. The others:

  • AOD-9604 is hGH fragment 177-191 with an extra tyrosine, studied for fat breakdown without raising IGF-1
  • HGH Fragment 176-191 is the 16-residue C-terminal end of growth hormone, the parent of AOD-9604
  • 5-Amino-1MQ is a small molecule that blocks the enzyme NNMT inside fat cells

These four are studied for fat metabolism but act in very different places: the growth hormone fragments on fat tissue from outside, 5-Amino-1MQ and MOTS-c from inside the cell. See them all on our weight loss peptides page.

Lab-tested MOTS-c 40mg

MOTS-c 40mg is made in the USA, and every batch goes to an independent U.S. laboratory before it’s sold. The lab confirms identity, measures the content and checks purity by HPLC. Our standard is 99% or higher.

Scroll through the photos at the top of the page and you’ll find the current batch’s certificate of analysis. We post the actual report, so you can check the figures yourself.

Purity isn’t the whole story, so batches are screened for endotoxins, heavy metals and sterility too. Write the batch number from the label into your notes so you can match results to the paperwork later.

MOTS-c 40mg reconstitution and concentration

The amount of liquid you add sets the concentration. For a vial holding 40mg:

  • 2mL of bacteriostatic water gives 20mg/mL
  • 3mL of bacteriostatic water gives 13.33mg/mL
  • 5mL of bacteriostatic water gives 8mg/mL

Choose the volume that suits your measurements. Mark the vial with the concentration and date so nobody has to guess later. The vial itself holds 5mL, so that’s the upper limit.

Bacteriostatic water is the usual choice. Add it slowly so it runs down the side of the vial, then swirl or roll until everything dissolves. Shaking can shear peptide chains. Skip it.

MOTS-c 40mg storage and shelf life

The dry powder keeps best cold. A freezer at -20°C is ideal for long-term storage, and a fridge works for a few weeks. After reconstitution, store it in the fridge and finish it within roughly four weeks.

A 6 vial container keeps open and sealed vials upright and apart, which makes the fridge a lot easier to manage. For a bigger collection, the Big Everything Box holds vials and supplies in one latching case.

Choosing a MOTS-c strength

  • MOTS-c 10mg: $58.00, about $5.80 per mg
  • MOTS-c 20mg: $90.00, about $4.50 per mg
  • MOTS-c 40mg (this page): $160.00, about $4.00 per mg

For longer projects MOTS-c 40mg works out cheaper per milligram than the small vial, and you’ll reorder less often.
