PT-141 in brief
PT-141 (bremelanotide) is a cyclic seven-amino-acid peptide derived from melanotan II. It activates melanocortin receptors, mainly MC4R, in the brain.
PT-141 activates MC4R and MC3R in the hypothalamus, receptors involved in sexual motivation and arousal pathways. It acts on the brain, not on blood flow, which sets it apart from PDE5 inhibitors.
What is Oxytocin?
Oxytocin is a nine-amino-acid hormone made in the hypothalamus and released by the posterior pituitary. It controls uterine contraction and milk release, and acts in the brain on social behavior.
Oxytocin acts on the oxytocin receptor, a G-protein coupled receptor found in the uterus, breast tissue and many brain regions.
What is N-acetyl-L-tyrosine?
N-acetyl-L-tyrosine is the amino acid tyrosine with an acetyl group added, which makes it far more soluble in water. Tyrosine is the starting material for dopamine, norepinephrine and adrenaline.
Once deacetylated, tyrosine is turned into L-DOPA by tyrosine hydroxylase, the rate-limiting step in making dopamine.
Kisspeptin-10 in brief
Kisspeptin-10 is the ten-amino-acid active fragment of kisspeptin, a hormone that triggers GnRH release in the hypothalamus. It’s central to puberty and reproductive hormone control.
Kisspeptin binds KISS1R (also called GPR54) on GnRH neurons in the hypothalamus. That triggers GnRH release, which in turn tells the pituitary to release LH and FSH.
What is VIP?
Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) is a 28-amino-acid neuropeptide found in the gut, brain and immune system. It relaxes smooth muscle, widens blood vessels and has anti-inflammatory effects.
VIP works through two receptors, VPAC1 and VPAC2, which raise cyclic AMP inside cells. In smooth muscle that means relaxation, so blood vessels widen and the gut and airways loosen.
