Description

Bacteriostatic water 30mL is a sterile vial of water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol from Hospira, a long-established U.S. maker of injectable products. It’s the standard liquid for reconstituting freeze-dried peptides, and it’s priced at $36.00. Store discount codes don’t apply to this item.

What is bacteriostatic water?

Bacteriostatic water is sterile water for injection with 0.9% benzyl alcohol added. The benzyl alcohol doesn’t sterilize anything, but it stops most bacteria from growing, which is what bacteriostatic means. That lets you puncture the stopper more than once over a few weeks, unlike plain sterile water, which is meant for one use.

It’s the liquid most labs use to dissolve lyophilized peptides. Every freeze-dried vial we sell, from BPC-157 10mg, GLP3-R 30mg and GHK-Cu 100mg, is meant to be mixed with it.

Why 30mL?

The 30mL vial is the large size. If you reconstitute a lot of vials, it’s cheaper per milliliter than the 10mL vial and you’ll open fewer stoppers. We also stock the 10mL size.

How to use bacteriostatic water to reconstitute a peptide

  • Let the peptide vial and the water reach room temperature.
  • Wipe both rubber stoppers with an alcohol swab and let them dry.
  • Draw the volume of water you need with a sterile syringe.
  • Push the needle through the peptide vial’s stopper and let the water run slowly down the inside wall of the glass. Don’t spray it onto the powder.
  • Roll or swirl the vial gently until the powder dissolves and the liquid is clear. Don’t shake it.
  • Label the vial with the concentration and the date, then store it in the fridge.

The volume you add sets the concentration. A 10mg peptide vial mixed with 2mL of water gives 5mg/mL, and the same vial mixed with 1mL gives 10mg/mL. Each of our peptide pages lists the math for its own vial size.

How far does bacteriostatic water 30mL go?

Here’s what one vial of bacteriostatic water 30mL covers at common mixing volumes:

  • 1mL per peptide vial: 30 vials
  • 2mL per peptide vial: 15 vials
  • 3mL per peptide vial: 10 vials
  • 5mL per vial, for larger vials such as GHK-Cu 100mg: 6 vials

Most of our peptides ship in 3mL vials, so 1 to 3mL is the usual range. A few larger vials, such as GLP3-R 120mg, MOTS-c 40mg, Tesamorelin 20mg and Buffered NAD+ 500mg, hold 5mL, and NAD+ 500mg, Buffered NAD+ 1000mg and Glutathione 1500mg come in 10mL vials with room for more water.

Bacteriostatic water vs sterile water

Sterile water has no preservative, so once you puncture the stopper it should be used up in one session. Bacteriostatic water 30mL has 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which keeps the vial usable for repeated draws over about four weeks. For peptide work, where you usually mix a vial and draw from it many times, bacteriostatic water is the practical choice.

Some protocols call for preservative-free water, for example in sensitive primary cell cultures. Follow your protocol when it says so.

When not to use it

A few peptides don’t dissolve well in plain water. For those, labs often use a dilute acid instead, such as our 0.6% acetic acid solution. If a peptide stays cloudy after gentle swirling, check its page for notes before adding anything else.

Benzyl alcohol can also affect some sensitive cell cultures. If your protocol calls for preservative-free water, follow it.

Bacteriostatic water 30mL specifications

  • Volume: 30mL multi-use vial
  • Contents: sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol
  • CAS numbers: 7732-18-5 (water), 100-51-6 (benzyl alcohol)
  • Form: aqueous solution

Storing bacteriostatic water

Keep unopened vials at room temperature, out of direct sunlight. Once the stopper has been punctured, the usual guideline is to use the vial within 28 days and to wipe the stopper with alcohol before every draw. Throw it out if it looks cloudy or has anything floating in it.

Peptide handling basics

Freeze-dried peptides are stable as long as they stay dry and cold. The trouble starts after mixing: a reconstituted peptide sits in water, and from that point heat, light, repeated punctures and bacteria all shorten its life. Good supplies don’t change the chemistry, but they make the routine easier to follow every time.

Three habits cover most of it. Swab the stopper before every draw, keep mixed vials in the fridge and out of the light, and label each vial with what’s in it, the concentration and the date. Bacteriostatic water FAQ

What is bacteriostatic water 30mL used for?

Reconstituting freeze-dried peptides for lab research. You add it to the peptide vial to dissolve the powder.

Is bacteriostatic water the same as sterile water?

No. Both are sterile, but bacteriostatic water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which keeps bacteria from growing so the vial can be used more than once.

How much do I need?

It depends on how many vials you mix and at what volume. One 30mL vial covers about ten to thirty peptide vials at 1 to 3mL each.

Do discount codes work on it?

No. Store discount codes don’t apply to bacteriostatic water.

Is it in stock?

Yes, and it ships with your peptide order.
