Description

9-Me-BC capsules are a bottle of 60 capsules, each holding 10mg 9-Me-BC and 5mg Methylene Blue. It’s made in the USA and sold for laboratory research only.

9-Me-BC capsules contents

  • 9-Me-BC: 10mg per capsule, 600mg per bottle
  • Methylene Blue: 5mg per capsule, 300mg per bottle

Capsules take out the measuring step. Each one carries a fixed amount, and the totals above show what a full bottle of 60 adds up to.

9-Me-BC (9-methyl-beta-carboline) in brief

9-Me-BC, 9-methyl-beta-carboline, is a small molecule from the beta-carboline family, a group of compounds found in some plants and made in small amounts in the body.

It came out of Hans Rommelspacher’s lab in Berlin, which studies beta-carbolines and the dopamine system. It isn’t approved for any use.

In cell culture it raised the expression of genes involved in dopamine neuron development and of neurotrophic factors. It also inhibits monoamine oxidase, which slows the breakdown of dopamine.

Methylene Blue in brief

Methylene blue is a blue dye first made by Heinrich Caro in 1876. It’s one of the oldest synthetic drugs and is still approved in the US, as ProvayBlue, for treating methemoglobinemia.

It dissolves in water and switches easily between its blue oxidized form and its colorless reduced form, leucomethylene blue. That redox behavior is why it’s used in so many lab assays.

At low concentrations methylene blue can accept electrons from NADH and hand them to cytochrome c, bypassing parts of the mitochondrial electron transport chain. That can keep energy production going when complex I or III is impaired.

Oral research with 9-Me-BC

Methylene blue is absorbed well by mouth, and oral delivery is how it’s been studied in most of the rodent memory work.

Peptides taken by mouth face stomach acid and digestive enzymes, so oral and injected results aren’t interchangeable. If you’re comparing formats, run them as separate arms and keep notes on which one each result came from.

What the research says

Hamann and colleagues reported in 2008 (Journal of Neurochemistry) that 9-Me-BC increased the number of dopamine-producing neurons in primary midbrain cultures and protected them from toxins.

Later rodent work from the same group looked at its effects on learning and on markers of dopamine neuron growth.

Paul Ehrlich used it in the 1890s to stain nerve tissue and to treat malaria, the first time a synthetic compound was used against a specific disease.

More recent work has looked at its effect on mitochondria and memory in rodents. A 2012 review by Rojas, Bruchey and Gonzalez-Lima in Progress in Neurobiology summarizes that research.

Planning a study with 9-Me-BC capsules

Work out the total before you order. Count the arms in your study, the number of time points in each and the capsules each time point uses, then divide by 60. Rounding up by one bottle covers a repeat run or a spoiled sample.

Keep capsules from the same batch within one study if you can. The batch number is on the label, and matching it across arms removes one variable from your results.

How 9-Me-BC capsules are tested

Every batch of 9-Me-BC capsules are made in the USA and checked by an independent U.S. lab for three things: that it’s the right compound, that the amount matches the label and that purity is 99% or better by HPLC.

Scroll through the photos at the top of the page and you’ll find the current batch’s certificate of analysis. We post the actual report, so you can check the figures yourself.

Purity isn’t the whole story, so batches are screened for endotoxins, heavy metals and sterility too. Write the batch number from the label into your notes so you can match results to the paperwork later.

How to store 9-Me-BC capsules

Store 9-Me-BC capsules sealed, in a cool, dry place out of direct light. A fridge is fine if you keep the lid tight so no condensation gets in. Put the lid back on straight after you take capsules out.
