What is 5-Amino-1MQ?
5-Amino-1MQ is a small quinolinium molecule that inhibits nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme highly expressed in fat tissue.
It’s sold as the iodide salt.
NNMT moves a methyl group onto nicotinamide, a form of vitamin B3. Fat cells make a lot of it. Blocking it leaves more nicotinamide available for NAD+ production and changes the cell’s methyl balance.
5-Amino-1MQ is a small, membrane-permeable NNMT inhibitor. In mouse fat cells it raised NAD+ and reduced fat storage, which is why it’s studied in obesity and aging models.
Oral research with 5-Amino-1MQ
Most published work on 5-Amino-1MQ used injection or cell culture, so oral delivery is its own research question. Capsules make that question easy to set up: the amount per unit is fixed and the bottle stays stable at room temperature.

Neelakantan and colleagues reported in 2018 that it reduced fat mass and body weight in obese mice.
Later work looked at muscle stem cells in aged mice.
